@essjax I fell asleep with just a bedsheet, no duvet. That too, was a tactical error. Autumn truly is here.
@David last time I was in your town it was 32° in the middle of the night. Can't imagine it chilly.

Dialog working in my queer, anti-AI, covid conscious fighting game! What ya think? #indiegame #indiedev
Antagonist - Shang GPTsung
Drains soul straight from art, writing -- ink bleeds from pages, brush strokes ripped from crows feet, blood and sweat of artists drained into his soul-less eye, spat back at you in smooth, piss-filtered, seven-fingered slop-balls.
They used to be called "carriage returns" because in those days they were pulled by horses.
I think, in an act of pure defiance of AI IP Theft, I'm going to go and learn how to bind books .
Might Start with Free to reproduce A4 resources like #OSRIC and it's kind and give them as Christmas gifts.
Beginner's tips and traps advice welcome.
Battle for Endor: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lfMWlAF5RW0
Lots of folks credit Indiana Jones with the creation of the PG-13 rating, but I blame Battle for Endor.
This thing is absolutely brutal for a kids movie.
These are the movies I've been thinking about this week.
@ajroach42 and, as the old saying goes: at some point, things transition from "bootlegs" to "the only surviving copies"
Something I've noticed while on book tour for the past couple of weeks is that Mastodon is a really good way to let people know about bookstore events. So many people I've met on the road have told me that they found out about my book tour from me or other folks on the fedi. I think it's partly because so many book-loving people are on Mastodon. But also if you compare Mastodon to places like Bluesky or Insta, the community here has a higher percentage of actual humans vs. bots or operatives.

I'm gonna write about this for my noozletter soon
But for now I just wanted to say that this short story was more work than a lot of longer works. I did so much research!
What I learned is that there are "smart city" ideas that rely on surveillance and control. The alternative is direct democracy and letting people shape their own city.
@dexter The source *code*, which is nothing special, really doesn't matter nearly so much as the source *corpus* that was used to pretrain the network. AFAIK, no one has yet found a way around using huge corpora of stolen text.

Smart human who read too!
On the flip side, there's Son Goku Fights, Son Goku Wins, a Korean dragon ball adaptation.
I don't have a trailer to share, but Wow.

I listened to another half-dozen Magnus Archives episodes season 5 last night!
There were hellscapes catering fear of apocalypse, vastness, bad psychologists, & bureaucracy. Also there was a hellscape where you hunt your friends one-by-one.
If this had actually happened in 2020 I'd probably have wound up in the apocalyptic hellscape... Do you know which one you'd have wound up in?
@ryanl I heard the Play Store Services update this week fixed a lot of gripes
@mrcippy I did see some early updates fixed some bugs. I'm hoping Google iterates quickly and gets Linux GUI apps fairly quickly.
Who's going to SeaGL next week? Who'll see my talk?
My talk is:
Alternate Technological Futures
What We're Sacrificing at the Altar of AI
@brainwane this metaphor hits extra hard because I was in Helsinki just over a month ago. 😂
@tedmielczarek Ha!
@nerdnextdoor @dunderhead i'm really upset i can't just push files anymore
@hipsterelectron @nerdnextdoor @dunderhead you can, but you need at add extra webhook.
It all starts with great science, and great science needs great tools.
Today, we launched RAISE.
We are inviting companies and philanthropic organisations to share AI tools, computing power and data with researchers across the EU.
When our scientists move faster, we all benefit.
Europe doesn’t wait for the future. We build it.
@EUCommission "beyond what public funding alone can provide" - what about more big tech taxes? That way you can do more funding.
Otherwise you cement dependencies and let big tech dictate the terms. Research and Europe in general however needs independence, imo.
What about taxing these companies instead of asking them for "donations"? And use that money to let research institutes build their own infrastructure?
Feeling exhausted by *waves hands around* all this?
Want the world to be a place where decisions are made based on what the evidence says is best for everyone, not just for billionaires and their hangers-on?
Want to see people in power who know what it really feels like to care for someone with disability, try to make a living in the arts, raise kids as a single parent, or experience discrimination?
Last weekend, I had a moment of joy at the campaign launch in Warragul for Ayssa Weaver, Rochelle Hine, and Mat Morgan from the Greens. A little bogong moth landed on the table right in front of me. I had a little chat with the moth about the difference it could make if it got on with the annual trek to the Snowy Mountains via Canberra. And because conversations really do change actions, my little moth friend flew out the door and was last seen headed north on a beautiful sunny afternoon.
It's not too late to change the outcome of the VIC State election in November! Now is the moment to choose hope instead of despair, and action to combat anger.
